Alao-Akala’s Man Emerges New Oyo Speaker

Joshua Olagunju Ojo from Ogbomoso zone of Oyo State on Tuesday emerged as the new Speaker of the state House of Assembly.


Ojo, a political associate of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, is to succeed the late Speaker, Michael Adeyemo, who died at age 47 on 27th of April 2018.


The new Speaker, who is a former Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, contested the 2015 election on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) before crossing to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).


Ojo defeated the Deputy Speaker of the House, Abdulwasil Musa, and others to emerge as the new Speaker during Tuesday’s plenary.


Akeem Ademola also emerged as the new Minority Leader of the state House of Assembly during yesterday’s sitting.


Meanwhile, there was heavy security at the entrance of the Assembly complex yesterday, as policemen were stationed around the House. Only members of the House and few individuals were allowed into the premises of the assembly complex.


Members of the public, including journalists not accredited by the House were prevented from covering the plenary.
