Anambra Women Honour Distinguished Politicians

A group of Anambra women, on Tuesday in Otuocha, the headquarters of Anambra East Council Area, honoured about ten distinguished indigenes of the state, who are in active politics, for their roles in the improvement of welfare of the masses, especially the women.

That was even as the women inaugurated a socio-political organization, ‘Women Alliance For Good Governance’ (WAGG) to sensitiSe women to play active roles in politics.

Some of those honoured include Primus Odili, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Awka; Tony Nwoye, a member of the House of Representatives and APC governorship candidate in the state at the last governorship election; Okechukwu Okitor, a politician and an Abuja based businessman; Chinedu Obidigwe, former political adviser to the state governor, Willie Obiano, and an aspirant for the House of Representative seat under APGA, Onyekwelu Udeanor, as well as a youth leader, Okechukwu Ajani, among others.

Speaking while inaugurating the Anambra East and West chapter of the organisation, Mrs. Omali Anagor, the founder and president of the organization, and Francis Igwah, its the Board of Trustee chairman, stated that the organisation was formed by women in the state to sensitise the women folk on the need to participate in active politics and stop being at the background.

 

They stressed that the organisation would fight the intimidation of women out of elective positions in all the parties, adding that their goal was to achieve a hundred percent participation of women in Nigeria politics in the 2019 general election.
