Sales Rep Arraigned Over Theft Of Employer’s N495, 000 Clothes, Jewellery

A 31-year -old sales representative, Sunday Ogwuche, who allegedly conspired with a salesgirl and stole her employer’s properties worth N495,000, was on Tuesday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

 

Ogwuche, a cousin to the salesgirl, simply identified as Comfort, who lives at No. 2, Alaba Close, Iju Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

 

Police Prosecutor Clifford Ogu told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb.17 at Green Land Plaza, Agege, Lagos. Ogu said the accused and his accomplice stole the clothes and jewellery of the complianant, Mrs Funmilade Adeyeye.

 

“The complainant knew Comfort through the accused and employed her as a salesgirl. “Comfort stole the clothes and jewellery valued at N495, 000 and disappeared, and all efforts to locate her failed,” he said.

 

Ogu said the complainant later learnt that the accused was in touch with Comfort, but had earlier denied knowing her whereabouts.

 

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised). Section 287 (7) stipulates a seven-year jail term for offenders.

 

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

 

In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A. Adegun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until June 7 for mention.
