Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Monday, said that he was under pressure from football agents desiring their players to be included in the Super Eagles’ 30-man provisional list, which was released by Gernot Rohr on Monday.
The list, which is made up of three home based players, has NPFL leading goal scorer, Junior Lokosa of Kano Pillars, two goalkeepers, including home-based Eagles captain, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, and Plateau United goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye, who was first choice goal tender of the victorious Golden Eaglets in the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Also included in the list are Francis Uzoho, William Ekong-Troost, Leone Balogun, Olaolu Aina, Kenneth Omeruo, Brian Idowu and Chidozie Awaziem. There is also Abdulahi Shehu, Elderson Echiejile, Tyronne Ebuehi and Stephen Eze
Joining Mikel John Obi in the midfield are Ogenyi Onazi, John Ogu, Wilfred Ndidi, Uche Agbo, Oghenekaro Etebo, Joel Obi and Mikel Agu. Invited forwards are Odion Ighalo, Ahmed Musa, Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon and Simeon Nwankwo.
Speaking shortly before the list was released, Pinnick said that he was under pressure from football agents, who wanted their wards to be included in the list. “I have pressure from agents; they want their players to be added in World Cup squad,” he said.
However, mixed reactions have trailed the list. While some believed that it was a good one, others think otherwise.
Speaking on instragram, Pshevy said, “Nice list, no surprises. Onyekuru should have been given a chance to prove his readiness and fitness. Well done sir.”
Another instagram account holder, sessien76, commented thus “Nice one, good list.”
Also commenting on the list, teeogunleye, however, believes that, “Brown Ideye should have been given a chance now.” Yet another instagram account holder, bashcom_don, says, “Fantastic list kudos to Gernot Rohr,” while Osejifestus believes that, it is a “Great one. No sentiments. All the best Rohr.”
